Digital Motion X-Ray (DMX)

Digital Motion X-ray lets us see a spinal injury in real time, on video, while you move — not just guess from a single still image.

DMX®: A Revolutionary X-Ray Imaging System

Combining digital motion X-ray imaging with advanced digital and optic technology, DMX allows our clinicians to view the upper, middle, and lower spine on a video monitor while a patient is standing and actively moving. It’s a powerful diagnostic tool for back pain, joint pain, sports injuries, chronic pain, and neck injuries from car accidents — and many other signs of underlying injury.

Why Static Imaging Can Miss the Injury

The spinal cord and vertebrae are protected and held in place by ligaments. When the body absorbs a rapid, hard impact — like the trauma of a car accident or whiplash — that force can stretch or tear those ligaments, causing pain and swelling that may not be visible on a static X-ray. Traditional imaging like X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs often lacks the sensitivity to detect a torn ligament, which can lead to a misdiagnosis or delay the right care.

Benefits of DMX®

Digital Motion X-Ray vs. MRI

Some injuries only hurt in motion. DMX lets us see and diagnose injuries while you move, evaluating bones and ligaments under the same standing, weight-bearing conditions that trigger your symptoms — something an MRI, performed lying still, simply can’t capture. DMX uses fluoroscopy to take roughly 30 X-ray images per second of the injured area in motion, creating a video that shows the full scope of an injury, can reveal hidden pain origins, and helps pinpoint the true source of pain more accurately than a still image ever could.
